Writing quality submissions for Income Security appeals at the General Division – December 2020
On December 9, we held a virtual information session to discuss the best approach to writing submissions in support of Income Security appeals at the General Division. Tribunal members facilitated this event, which included practitioners from across the country.
The session touched upon:
- the importance of written submissions
- what information is useful to the General Division and to the people involved in an appeal
- effective ways to include evidence and law in a submission
We encouraged participants to share their experiences in writing and reading submissions, as well as their ideas on best practices for developing useful submissions. We received positive feedback from participants.
Due to the significant interest in this session, we could not accommodate all the practitioners who asked to take part. Because of this, we will schedule a second session for Income Security submissions at the General Division early next year. We also plan to hold a similar session with practitioners at the Appeal Division in January.
This is another step in our ongoing commitment to improve access to justice (A2J).
